4.2 The Shroud of Isolation

Book IV: The Curse of Y’AH-Way
Chapter 2: The Shroud of Isolation

You might be wondering, how did I keep Adam and Eve away from all the other peoples of the world? After all, the man, his mate, and their five kids comprised the entirety of Mankind in a world that was fraught with danger – not the least of those threats potentially coming from the elder root races, any of which could have wiped out humanity without breaking a sweat.

Yet I wasn’t about to let that happen.

To ensure the safety of my fledging little race from the other peoples on Terra I employed a multifaceted approach, utilizing both magical and strategic methods to keep Adam and his family isolated whilst they grew.

Since magical barriers had already proven effective I went back to that well for the foundation – laying down a series of powerful enchantments around the region where Adam and Eve had settled when they’d left The Garden of Eden. These barriers deployed my spell called The Shroud of Isolation and they were designed to mislead any non-human races that might wander too close. The Shroud worked by creating illusions, making the area appear desolate, uninhabitable, and devoid of life.

If anyone attempted to approach too close, they’d find themselves confronted by terrifying visions, further ensuring they avoided the region.

Meanwhile, I tortured Gaia a bit and forced her to subtly alter the lands around the valley where Adam’s family lived – creating natural barriers to make it physically difficult for the other races to reach them AND to discourage the man and his family from venturing too far.

A ring of mountains thus stood like silent sentinels to the north, their peaks seemingly cloaked in perpetual snow. A desert stretched out to the southeast, its shifting sands and mirages designed to confuse any who dared to cross it. To the west, a petrified forest whispered its ancient secrets – warnings especially meant for the Amorosi to keep them at bay. To the east, a vast sea lay – calm and undisturbed – I could sense the Atlanteans far below so I sent a few fear trinkets throughout the ocean currents and compelled a series of sea creatures to menace their cities, causing them to become preoccupied with their own survival and ensuring their focus remained far from the surface world.

In Africa, the Hyperboreans were thriving and they were a bit too close for comfort to Adam’s vicinity, however they weren’t hard to manipulate. Being of a lesser intelligence, their people were highly susceptible to spiritual fears – I kept them at bay by causing legends to be told that warns of northern lands cursed by vengeful spirits and ancient gods.

I also orchestrated events that encouraged the Hyperboreans to become jealous of each other – this quickly devolved into territorial disputes that have consumed their peoples ever since.

You’ll recall that the Lemurians were locked behind their precious ice wall – sealed in by the Amulet of Zyphor. As for those few Mylars that had remained in the world at large, I wasn’t aware of any that lived in the area, but just to be safe I forced a pair of lesser lumenarcs to act as my spiritual sentinels. I bound these ethereal guardians to monitor the perimeter of Adam and Eve’s territory. Their powers, although not anything to write home about, were enough to repel any mortal who came too close – including the mylars.

That’s about all I could do. After all, there is a limit to my time and Adam and Eve weren’t my only project [far from it!].

And so, at the heart of a secluded valley, untouched by time, Adam and Eve lived with their growing family, unaware of the dark protector who watched over them. Then it was that I smiled, knowing that my plans were unfolding perfectly.

The stage was set, and soon, the true potential of humanity would be revealed.
