7.2 Drok and Derk

Book VII: The Book of Kane
Chapter 2:

Meanwhile, with their patriarch out of the picture, Kane’s sons, Derk and Drok, had to decide where to go. Some of the clans chose to continue migrating east – they eventually settled in the most eastern portion of the new world — we’ll call this group The Kanites (unfortunately they fell away from the worship of Baal and became useless to me).

Another band decided to go due south (they’d eventually fall under my rival lumenarc Inanna’s control – also not useful to me).

Thankfully, most of the people stuck with Derk and Drok and settled in the far west of the new continent – mainly because that’s where the priests of Baal told them The Promised Lands were located.

And would you believe it? Drok and Derk and their people actually discovered a fertile land flowing with milk and honey – a True Promised Land! Who knew?

The brothers called their new home Gor, and it was here that both their clans settled. But trouble soon followed…

Despite the land being bountiful enough to support the large clans of both brothers, it was in Gor that the Clans of Derk got greedy and decided to enslave their brethren from the clans of Drok. Derk, the elder of Kane’s sons, had always been a man driven by ambition and a thirst for power. Even during the long journey under Father Kane, Derk had looked for opportunities to dominate the clan. His strong frame and piercing eyes commanded respect and fear from his followers.

Drok, on the other hand, was a stark contrast to his brother. Although still a worthy ‘son of Kane’, Drok possessed a gentler spirit. His vision for The Promised Land was one of unity and prosperity for all. Unfortunately, his ideals made him a target for Derk’s machinations.

With their father Kane now gone, Old Derk took advantage of the power vacuum and set himself up as the ‘king’ of his all the clans of God – and his first order of business was to murder his brother Drok in order to solidify his power!

Drok’s untimely demise at Derk’s hands marked the end any hope for a harmonious society, and the beginning of an era of tyranny. Under Derk’s leadership, the ‘Derkka’ clan thrived. The desire to rule unchallenged led him to plot against his own blood, showcasing a cunning mind and a heart hardened by years of struggle and conquest. His cruelty knew no bounds, as he manipulated and coerced those around him to secure his dominion.

When I at last bothered to check in on Kane’s people I was pleasantly surprised to see how events had played out. Amused at these developments, I decided I rather liked these people who called themselves The Derkka [especially because the Derks remained loyal to Baal and were easy for me to influence]. I also saw an opportunity to use the Drok slaves in another experiment that promised to add additional ‘layers’ to my own designs.
